Selvaria Bles of the Imperial Alliance Army
Fans of Sega’s Valkyria Chronicles (PS3) have been singing its praises for months now (remember?) in the hopes that others will discover this fantastic game, and enjoy it for hours on end. As a big thanks to fans, and as a means of further supporting the game, Sega finally announced that Valkyria Chronicles will be getting its first batch of downloadable content this “spring” in the form of 3 new packs “including Hard EX Mode, Edy’s Mission ‘Enter the Edy Detachment’, and Selvaria’s Mission ‘Behind Her Blue Flame.’”
A description of the DLC packs follows:
Hard EX Mode – fight your way once more through the entire Imperial army, where the enemies are more lethal and your main tank Edelweiss is unavailable. You’ll have to be more strategic in order to overcome your opponents.
Edy’s Mission “Enter the Edy Detachment” – six members have been separated from Squad 7 and on their journey to reunite with the squad, they stumble upon a tiny village under attack by the Imperial Army. Play as Edy and command your outnumbered team to defend the small village from annihilation.
Selvaria’s Mission “Behind Her Blue Flame” – this mission takes place right after the outbreak of Gallian battle lines and you play as Johann, a young and meek engineer, assigned to Selvaria’s troop. See the action as it unfolds behind enemy lines and see the war play out through the eyes of the enemy.
Day one, I’m there. I just finished Episode 14- Loss Within Victory last night, and I can honestly say I haven’t been that blown away by the combination of strategic game play and the cinematic moments that preceeded and followed the battle in several years. The characters just take a hold of you and won’t let go, and you feel that much more responsible to them as you play the missions as a result. I didn’t think any RPG, let alone SRPG, would edge out Fire Emblem: Shadow Dragon (DS) for me this year, but as much as I enjoyed it, Welkin, Alicia and the rest of Squad 7 ended up pulling far, far ahead.
Have I been under a rock, where did Ken Lashley come from? I don’t know that I’ve liked a “newcomers” art this much since discovering Paul Pelletier on New Exiles. And while his work on Black Panther is likely lost on me (really enjoy the character, not so much the scripting) I still marvel at the previews, and hope that his profile rises that much more because being part Jim Lee, part J.S. Campbell (from what I can “see” thus far), with his own unique twist on it all, this is just really dang good comic art.
